A Solo Exhibition by Eugene Ofori Agyei

Curated by Emmanuel Manu Opoku

Eugene Ofori Agyei is a Ghanaian artist who works in mediums such as sculpture and ceramics. He received his bachelor’s degree in Industrial Arts from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in 2018 and is currently a Master of Fine Art candidate in Ceramics at the School of Art and Art History, University of Florida. Eugene Agyei’s work explores his psychological hybrid experience of spaces between Ghana and the US, using red clay, colorful yarns, and African fabric. Yarns and fabric scraps are intricately wrapped around three-dimensional abstract forms, navigating the ontological processes and transculturation of identity, as well as the originality of the African fabric. The artist employs rough texture in his new body of work to suggest the experiential significance of his working process, in reference to Auguste Rodin’s sculptures. He has participated in numerous group exhibitions and engaged in residencies internationally. The exhibition "Spaces In-Between" is Eugene's first solo show.
