Alchemy + Space / by 4Most Gallery

February 25, 2022 - March 4, 2022

An exhibition featuring work from graduate students of the School of Art and Art History: Sonia Vera-Leon, Allison Burch, Eugene Agyei, Courtney Boyd, and Lexus Giles.

"Alchemy + Space" brings together five artists grappling with the history of clay as a marginalized medium, cultural item, and art form. The work ventures into uncharted locales, pushing the boundaries of materiality, and collectively examines issues of identity, agency, and resistance to systems of oppression.

The exhibition derives its meaning from two central elements of working within contemporary ceramic culture: alchemy and space. Clay is an intrinsically transformative material that is charged with notions of flux and social change. The process of building form necessitates taking up space and is an act of resistance in itself. "Alchemy + Space" fosters critical dialogue centered around contemporary ceramic practices and the medium’s social relevance. The show opens on February 25th and will remain on view through March 4th.
